Selfie / Double Exposure
Artist Statement:
The object (or background I suppose) I chose for this photo was a simple one- a potted plant by my window. However, this symbolizes many things. All of my pet tanks are kept under that window, gerbils spent many a day sleeping in the sun. It also shows my love for nature! The window that shines light into my life every day. I think the biggest difference that you can see between these photos is the better lighting, and a more clear picture of me. I think being in this class has helped me gain confidence - especially because I was someone who would never be caught taking a selfie before being in photography. I also like this photo because it's a lot less crowded; my previous photo has so much going on. Last note- I connect this quote to all of my pets that have passed. |
Artist Statement :
This piece is made up of objects that represent me. Hobbies, pets, acquaintances. The first layer represents me, as it is quite literally a picture of me. The next layer represents where I live. It is a sunrise shot of northside, the school that I live directly across from but did not get an education at. It also is ironically a sunrise and not sunset, something that I usually would not be awake for as I am not a morning person. Both the layer with watercolors and the sketch layer depict my love but not always affinity for art. Those watercolors were the first actual palette I bought, and I used to use them constantly. The cola bottle is mainly just because I thought it looked nice and I like plants. I covered up the label with a wonderful drawing my friend made for me of a gerbil. The reasoning for this is 2-fold. As aforementioned, to talk about my friend and also to cover the logo (can’t be advertising name brand products on my art). |
